US President Donald Trump warned on Friday he was ready to slap tariffs on virtually all Chinese imports into the United States, threatening duties on another $267 billion (£206.7 billion) of goods on top of $200 billion in imports primed for levies in coming days. "Start building new plants now", Trump wrote. "Exciting!" Trump said in the tweet.
Hours after a public comment period closed on his $200 billion China tariff list, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he was "being strong on China because I have to be".
The suggestion that Apple could easily move all of its manufacturing to the USA doesn't quite match up with the realities of the consumer electronics industry, which depends on China's significantly lower wages as well as the country's massive manufacturing infrastructure.

A "wide range" of Apple Inc AAPL.O products including the Apple Watch would be affected by proposed USA tariffs on Chinese goods, the company told US trade officials, but gave no sign of an impact on its iPhone cash cow.

Apple also said that computer parts for its USA operations would be hit by the tariffs.
"More broadly, tariffs will lead to higher USA consumer prices, lower overall US economic growth, and other unintended economic consequences".
The White House has accused China of stealing United States intellectual property and forcing American companies to share their technology with Chinese companies. The tariffs would pressure China to stop that behaviour, the administration has said. Apple said "it is hard to see" how tariffs would advance the government's goal.
Cell phones, the biggest USA import from China, have so far been spared, but would be hit if Trump activates the new $267 billion tariff list.
