England's Bronte Law is four shots off the pace after battling the heat on day two at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship.
"Golf is definitely a amusing game because yesterday I thought I hit it just really, really flawless, like I just couldn't ask more, and I shot three-under", she told reporters. Last year, she missed the cut in her debut Women's PGA Championship, one of five women's majors.
England's Charley Hull (67) and Canada's Brooke Henderson (74) shared sixth place at 6 under, with Jacqui Concolino (67), Lizette Salas (70) and I.K. Kim (71) another stroke back in a tie for eighth.
An impressive back nine featuring four birdies helped Ryu move from two shots behind Henderson to two shots ahead in the space of three holes.
Though Ryu made birdie on the same hole to go up by two shots, she lost that advantage with a double bogey at the 17th and never quite recovered. Henderson made the par putt to stay at six under for the tournament.

Former KPMG champion Henderson set the pace for most of the day and held a two-shot advantage at one stage, but then bogeys on 14 and 16 - coupled with birdies for Ryu - saw the top of the leaderboard change dramatically. She holed out from a greenside bunker at the seventh and knocked a 3-hybrid to 15 feet at the 11 hole.
"Up and down all day", she said of a round that included five birdies and four bogeys.
Hataoka had threatened to steal a stunning victory with a 64, sitting in the clubhouse for a couple of hours to see whether her 10-under 278 total would be enough. "I think I've been waiting this time for such a long time, since I've been having a tough year this year especially, and this is my second major win in two years".
"The KPMG Women's PGA Championship has quickly become synonymous with greatness, and what better venue to solidify that than Baltusrol", said LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan. Hataoka missed hers, and Park, the last to putt, had to make hers to extend the playoff.
