Two sheriff's deputies were shot Friday inside a juvenile court services building in Kansas City, Kansas, according to a Wyandotte County spokesman.
Lionel Colon said when officers arrived, they were shot at, so they returned fire.
The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department is heading the investigation.
Moments later, the Wyandotte County sheriff's deputies were shot by one of the inmates shortly after 11am.
A suspect was also shot during the incident and was taken to an area hospital for surgery. No other details were released about the suspect, including his condition.

He also addressed the fact that there have been four officer shootings in Wyandotte County in three years. The Kansas City Star reported Smith said the officers "did what they thought was necessary".

The shooting happened before 11:17 a.m. Friday near the corner of 8th Street and Ann Avenue.

The suspect's condition was unknown Saturday.
