The review was prompted by claims that Cambridge Analytica, a political research consultancy linked to the 2016 Trump presidential campaign, used improperly obtained data of millions of Facebook users.
"We suspended the myPersonality app nearly a month ago because we believe that it may have violated Facebook's policies", Facebook VP of product partnerships Ime Archibong said in a statement provided to The Register.

If Facebook finds evidence that these or other apps did misuse data, it will ban them and notify users via Help Centre on its website. This applied to apps affected by its 2014 platform policy change, which reduced the amount of data the apps could access.
Facebook has not yet revealed the names of the suspended apps or the companies behind them, and is unlikely to do so unless they are banned.
Two Cambridge researchers, Dr Michal Kosinski and Dr David Stillwell, had pioneered psychometric research using Facebook data with that application. It's not entirely certain that these apps are actually at fault, but the social media company has suspended them pending a more extensive investigation.

As part of its response to the crisis, Facebook says it has has investigated thousands of apps since CEO Mark Zuckerberg promised an internal audit back in March. Facebook will continue updating users on its progress against data privacy violations over the weeks until the audit process is complete for all apps.
Facebook will be posting the results of its audit on a support page, though only in cases where it finds apps that have misused data.
