While some of the analysts were predicting 53 million units to be sold, but the company managed to earn $34 billion dollars by selling a meager 52.2 million iPhones. In a bid to increase its retail footprint, Apple has tied up with Jio to create a distribution platform for iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in India.
"Customers chose iPhone X more than any other iPhone each week in the March quarter, just as they did following its launch in the December quarter", Cook told investors during a May 1 earnings call. Apple's services revenues increased 31% to $9.19 billion. "And the infrastructure has come quite a ways since we began to put a lot of energy in there due to their leadership and so forth", he said.
Being too reliant on one product has its obvious pitfalls but there are also perhaps "hidden" benefits to generating more sales from the services business. After all, it likely can't increase prices much more and unit sales are nearly unchanged over the past two quarters from the prior year.
