At least 29 people were killed and several injured on Monday after a bus of Wazir Ram Singh Pathania Memorial School fell into a deep cleft near Nurpur area in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.
27 persons, including 24 school students, were killed when a private school bus fell into a 150 feet-deep gorge near Malkval in Nurpur, about 50 km from Dharmshala, on Monday afternoon, police said. He further informed that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is also deployed at the incident site and the rescue operation is underway.
"My first priority was to save lives".
Police said Haji Mohamed, 8, was struck by the school bus when he attempted to run across Sprague Street.
Onlookers rushed to search the mangled, upturned yellow bus for survivors. Eleven others have reportedly been injured.
