DRAMATIC scenes unfolded at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Monday night as Kenyan opposition politician Miguna Miguna physically resisted efforts to re-deport him, with police assaulting journalists who attempted to cover the stand-off.
The politician, Miguna Miguna, had been deported to Canada as part of a government crackdown on opposition politicians who participated in the mock January 30 inauguration of opposition leader Raila Odinga as a protest to the disputed re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Orengo termed the JKIA officials' move as a cowardice act revealing that they would apprise the judge who expects Miguna to appear in court on Wednesday on the current happenings. A court later ordered that Miguna's Kenyan passport be restored and that he be allowed to return.
"The court should bite those disobeying court orders harder", James Orengo, a senator and lawyer for Miguna, told the court.
Elections 2019: Mamata Banerjee explores 'federal front' against BJP
Banerjee also met Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) parliamentarian Misa Bharti, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Yadav. In an interaction with journalists later, Banerjee said that no party is more communal than BJP.
After Miguna protested, that failed.
Miguna Miguna denied filling the forms until the High Court issued the order to release him. That failed when he protested.
Early on Wednesday, Miguna posted a statement on social media saying he remained "detained inside a tiny and filthy toilet" in the airport. "I have not eaten. You can not chase me from my country of birth because you have guns". The court will jail them if they don't show, Justice George Odunga said. The video appeared to have been taken with a mobile phone by an airline crew member.
Justice Roselyn Aburili had on Tuesday given a directive to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, Director of Immigration Gordon Kihalangwa, and Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinett to release the lawyer and so that he makes an appearance in court as earlier stated. The repeat ballot had a low turnout as Odinga boycotted it, citing a lack of electoral reforms.
Stormy Daniels: White House 'strongly' denies Trump's alleged affair
McDougal said she ended the relationship in 2007 out of guilt concerning Trump's wife, Melania. It also alleges that Cohen was secretly involved in her discussions with American Media.
The airport confrontation came two weeks after a surprise meeting between opposition leader Odinga and Kenya's president as they announced a new initiative to heal the East African nation after months of sometimes deadly election turmoil.
Miguna was at Odinga's side when the opposition leader took an oath as the "people's president" at the mock inauguration.
The High Court in Kenya has summoned three senior government officials to explain the ongoing stalemate over the detention and citizenship status of opposition politician Dr. Miguna Miguna.
