The trade conflict between China and the US escalated, with Beijing announcing its first retaliation against metals levies hours after President Donald Trump outlined fresh tariffs on $50 billion of Chinese imports and pledged there's more on the way. A 25 percent tariff on pork and aluminum imports is also being considered.
This restrictive trade policy will not only undercut USA agricultural exports and economic growth, but will also cause undue harm to America's agricultural communities, which will likely bear the brunt of China's retaliatory measures.
However, China's Commerce Ministry also called on the U.S.to "pull back from the brink" and to reconsider its new trade punishments. The U.S. goods, which had an import value of $3 billion in 2017, include wine, fresh fruit, dried fruit and nuts, steel pipes, modified ethanol, and ginseng.
'No use to anyone' The climbdown came as Trump announced new sanctions against China for what he called the theft of United States intellectual property - which Beijing has vowed to meet with tit-for-tat retaliation.
Mr Trump on Friday ordered the US Trade Representative (USTR) to publish in 15 days a list of Chinese products it intends to target with tariffs.
Other American products like pork and recycled aluminum goods are at risk of a 25 percent tariff, according to the Chinese commerce ministry. Previous measures against steel, aluminum and solar panels have applied to imports from other countries too.
Amid concerns that cheap Chinese steel will enter the USA from exempted countries, Navarro says those countries must agree to quotas on exports into the U.S. He said Trump and Xi agreed past year on a 100-day agenda of trade-liberalization measures but Beijing failed to act on about half of them.
"China is seeking a path toward harmonization of man and nature", a Geneva-based WTO official quoted China's trade delegate, cited by Reuters.
"The Chinese side urges the United States side to resolve the concerns of the Chinese side as soon as possible", it said.Читайте также: You're not actually good at PUBG mobile, it's full of bots
"China has demonstrated sincerity in making reasonable suggestions to the United States, and has made great efforts to address the current trade imbalance between China and the United States", said the embassy. Trade skirmishes can also hurt USA exports.
Wall Street had an ugly day Thursday, nose-diving more than 700 points after Trump signed the China tariffs.
The United States launched today a challenge at the World Trade Organization against China over intellectual property breaches, a statement said. Those benefits, which disproportionately go toward working-class Americans, will fall due to the USA tariffs, as American importers will pass some of their increased costs along to consumers.
The move significantly raises the possibility of increased trade tensions between the U.S. and China.
Another administration official said China benefits far more from the US-China trade relationship than the US does. On Thursday, Trump also announced proposed tariffs of up to $60 billion worth of Chinese imports.
"The United States" practice of restricting the import of products based on "national security' has severely damaged the multilateral trade system represented by the WTO and seriously interfered with the normal global trade order", the statement said.
Brazil, Japan and Australia, were among those criticizing the USA tariffs measures during the debates. "It also demonstrated that the worldwide community is concerned about the recklessness and danger of USA policies and actions".
Certain towns could feel the pain as the industries there are affected the most, but so far, Trump's instincts have been to make a big tariff announcement and then scale it back dramatically.При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
