The New Year 2018 began on a chilly and foggy note in the national capital Delhi, with heavy fog affecting road, air and rail traffic, while the mercury dipped to 5.7 degrees Celsius. Five domestic and seven global flights were delayed due to the fog whereas one flight has been cancelled. Save for a couple of worldwide flights, all other flights that were heading North were delayed, they said. This comes a day after over 350 flights flying out of Delhi were either suspended or delayed.
The drop in visibility levels forced authorities at the IGI airport to put in place CAT III B procedures which allows aircraft to land even under 50-metre visibility, an IGI official said. Due to the flights delays, travel plans and New Year celebrations of many passengers went haywire.
