A class action lawsuit has been filed against Apple following the company's admission that it has been slowing down older iPhones to prevent unexpected shutdowns as their battery degrades. Bogdanovich believes that the slowdown is a ploy by Apple to get users to upgrade devices.
That round-about explanation from Apple was prompted by two weeks of intense speculation it was deliberately slowing older iPhones, after a Reddit user found his iPhone 6S was having its processor speed deliberately muted by its latest iOS update. Older batteries are unable to handle peak current draws in the manner newer iPhone models with newer batteries are able to do.

Last year, Apple introduced a feature to "smooth out" spikes in demand for power to prevent iPhone 6 models from shutting down due to the cold or weak batteries, according to the California-based company.
"Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices", said an Apple spokesperson.
Flu cases on the rise in Montana
The Hill Country's off-again, on-again winter weather is the prime time to get influenza and be calling work to say you're sick. They say that's why vaccines "wear off" instead of giving lifetime immunity from the very strains people are inoculated with.
Apple goes on to say that these updates are meant to address the issue of power demands but at the cost of performance, leading to a decrease in responsiveness. "Previous year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions".
"Apple purposefully and knowingly released operating system software updates to iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and certain iPhone 7 phones that slowed the performance speeds of the central processing units of these devices", the complaint claims.
Virginia governor cites power of a single vote
The recounted votes still must be certified by a court Wednesday, although officials expected that no ballots would be challenged. The final tally: 11,608 for Simonds to 11,607 for Yancey. "Personally, I know of nothing in history like this", he said.
Changing a battery in an iPhone is not a do-it-yourself operation - it requires $79 and an appointment at an Apple store, or or mailing the phone to Apple - but it is far cheaper than buying a new phone.
People anxious about performance could replace batteries, which Apple does for free for iPhones covered by warranty or for $79 if that is not the case.
