Snapchat has made it really convenient and easy for users to add other people as their contacts by just scanning the account code. Stories are now sorted based on a new "best friends" algorithm, and the company has brought back the auto-advance feature. A small percentage of users worldwide on iOS and Android will start getting the new Snapchat on Friday, earlier than expected, and it should be rolled out to everyone within a few weeks.
Ironically, Spiegel's solution to "fake news" necessitates dialing back the clock to a time before social media altogether. Instead, rival services have managed to copy Snapchat's most popular features and make them available to a broader audience.

Today Snap updated Snapchat in a major way, fully packed with an experience "organized around your relationships and personalized just for you!" On the right you'll see "Stories from publishers, creators, and the community are on the right".
"Today we're separating the "social" from the "media" and reorganizing Snapchat around your relationships to make it more personal", Snap CEO Evan Spiegel said in a video announcing the redesign. But better late than never, and Snap's willingness to flip-flop on so many of its design and strategy choices is the courageous move it needed. This means that Snapchat is making an effort to separate content from a user's friends from professional media content.
The new version of Snapchat will separate publisher content from interactions between friends, creating a two-sided layout that is designed to aid discovery. "While blurring the lines between professional content creators and your friends has been an interesting internet experiment, it has also produced some odd side-effects (like fake news) and made us feel like we have to perform for our friends rather than just express ourselves".

"It's going to aid in the discovery of new content for people", said Nick Bell, Snap's VP of content, speaking at Business Insider's Ignition media conference. Everything within the app technically works but trying to navigate it has always been something of a pain. Swipe left, and all the content from Snap media partners, such as television networks NBC and ESPN, is mixed with curated event videos and "snaps" from internet celebrities.
Teen Snap addicts might complain that it's confusing jumbling all content from friends together. So, if you're snapping a photo of your pooch, Snapchat might unlock a pet-themed filter that says "it's a pawty!" "We think this helps guard against fake news and mindless scrambles for friends or unworthy distractions".
So how does Snap know who's a friend, and who's a brand?
