Former Paralympian Oscar Pistorius had had a jail sentence extended from six years to 13 years and five months for his role in the death of his girlfriend Reena Steenkamp, who was shot six times in their home in February 2013. He was released in 2015 after serving one year of the initial five-year term, but returned behind bars after his murder conviction in December 2015, when his sentence was increased to six years by trial judge Thokozile Masipa.
Pistorius should have been sentenced to the prescribed minimum of 15 years for murder in South Africa, Seriti said, as he delivered the verdict that was reached by a panel of five judges at the Supreme Court in the central city of Bloemfontein.
He was not wearing his prosthesis when he fired four shots with his 9mm pistol, using lethal black gallon-type ammunition, into the toilet door in the early hours of Valentine's Day 2013, believing there was an intruder in the small cubicle after hearing a noise inside.

The new sentence was set out to be 15 years but Pistorious has already served 18 months in jail. "They just feel that their trust in the justice system has been confirmed this morning", family spokesperson Tania Koen told Reuters.
The Organisation Justice for Victims tweeted that 13 years was "still no justice".
