The Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund declared 2017 "the Year of the Trans Candidate", noting that four transgender candidates won their state and local elections last night (Tuesday, Nov. 7), "with one more possible as results trickle in".
Jenkins was previously a policy aide to the Minneapolis City Council's Vice President Elizabeth Glidden and worked to revitalize poor neighborhoods.
She ran on a campaign platform of "developing affordable housing, raising the minimum wage, addressing youth violence as a matter of public health, and supporting minority artist", according to The Advocate.
She was one of several transgender women to win office yesterday: In California, Lisa Middleton won a seat on the Palm Springs City Council, while in Virginia Danica Roem became the first trans candidate to be elected to the Virginia Legislature.
Apple Readying Augmented-Reality Glasses For 2020 Launch
It seems that Apple began assembling a team to work on AR-related projects a couple of years ago, Bloomberg reported in March. This summer, it introduced ARKit , a software development kit that lets developers create AR apps for iPhones and iPads.
"It's a long game and we're taking the long view", said Jenkins, who won a four-way race with 73 percent of the vote.
In Virginia, Danica Roem, 33, became the first openly transgender state lawmaker in America and, most importantly, she beat Bob Marshall, the transphobic politician who wrote the state's (failed) trans bathroom bill that would've also required school officials to inform the parents of any student who asked "to be recognized or treated as the opposite sex".
Jenkins wasn't the only black transgender person running for a seat on the Minneapolis City Council.
Winning over 70% of the vote in a four-way race, Jenkins became the first transgender person ever elected to a major city's governing body and also one of the first out trans people of color elected to any USA office. Jenkins now leads the groundbreaking Transgender Oral History Project at the University of Minnesota.
Sheep Can Recognize Obama's Face
The sheep were having two options in each step as a photo of celebrity face or another is of something else. Morton said that future neurological research, using sheep as model organisms, could build from this study.
In her acceptance speech, Jenkins, a Democrat, said, "As an African American trans-identified woman, I know firsthand the feeling of being marginalized, left out, thrown under the bus".
There were 18 openly transgender candidates that ran in the U.S.in 2017 and there are 11 running in 2018 elections, according to a list compiled by Harvard researcher Logan Casey. On top of that, Marshall also referred to Roem with male pronouns and refused to debate her.
Jenkins is a poet, activist and historian who is passionate about social issues, in part because of her experience as a transgender woman.
Aisha C. Moodie-Mills, president and CEO of Victory Fund, declared: "Tonight was about fighting back - an unprecedented number of brilliant trans candidates asking for the votes of tens of thousands of Americans, and getting them".
Skip the line: restaurant wait times on Search and Maps
But unlike Google, NoWait also lets you put your name on the list for those restaurants that don't take reservations. Yes, it's an opt-in feature, and yes, you've probably opted-in, because it makes Maps and Search a lot more useful.
"We don't just want a seat at the table-we want to set the table", reads the statement. "That just shows how respected she is from her lifetime, decades of work, but also how she is someone who brings a glue, who brings a sense of connectedness, and, frankly, I think that's something the city needs right now".
